Your Aromatherapist

Hello, my name is Andrew Sherratt.

I have over 9 years' experience as an Aromatherapist and I am currently practising in Exeter, Devon.
Exeter is a well-connected city with easy access. There is free parking right outside my practice in St Leonard's.
Many people travel in from surrounding towns such as Topsham, Torquay, Sidmouth, Honiton, Ashburton, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Totnes, other parts of Devon or even from Cornwall because they are looking for a top quality Aromatherapy treatment with an experienced professional.

I grew up with my British parents in South Africa where I completed my university education, gaining BSc(Hons) degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics.
I am also a qualified Medical Technologist and worked for some years as a Chemical Pathologist before becoming Senior Lecturer in Chemistry at the Technikon University of Cape Town.
In my spare time I qualified as an exercise teacher and taught classes in aerobics, Callanetics, stretch and Iyengar Yoga.

After moving to London, I completed a massage diploma with the London College of Massage before beginning my studies in Aromatherapy. I graduated from the London School of Aromatherapy in Holistic Clinical Aromatherapy in July 1998.

I worked part-time for 2 years at a centre for HIV/AIDS in London offering holistic Aromatherapy treatments while I also built up my private practice from home.

I have always been passionate about personal growth and the vital importance of listening to people when they come for a treatment. I completed my first extensive counselling course in Amsterdam in 1987. Since then, I have also trained in Emotional Therapy (2001 – 2002) and find these skills to be a key component of any effective healthcare treatment.

After a personal bereavement in 2004, I took a therapeutic sabbatical from my aromatherapy practice and spent some time living and working in Asia. This was a time of great personal growth and healing that has humbled me, deepened my understanding of the human condition and enriched my ability to stand alongside someone and offer them guidance to a place of greater well being.

aromatherapy courses exeter #03The International Federation of Aromatherapists (IFA) is the longest established organisation for professional aromatherapists in the world.
It was formed in 1985 to act as an independent body to support and represent the aromatherapy profession.
Please visit their website for more information.
I joined the IFA in 1998 and have been a member continuously since then.
I am also a Principal Tutor with the IFA (registration P/0237).
As one of the few Aromatherapists in Devon who are members of the IFA, I am committed to raising the standards of aromatherapy practice in Exeter and the South West.

aromatherapy exeter #04In December 2006, Aromatherapy was recognised legally in the UK as a self-regulated healthcare profession.
The Aromatherapy Council has been set up to keep a register of Aromatherapists who meet the agreed national standards for their training, professional skills, behaviour and health.
All Aromatherapists on the Aromatherapy Council’s register will abide by their Code of Professional Conduct & Ethics, are answerable to their Complaints and Disciplinary procedures, keep up-to-date with training and knowledge of the therapy and have insurance to practice.
Those on the register have proved they are safe, competent & effective practitioners - most are highly skilled specialists having completed further training & work experience beyond the minimum requirements.

aromatherapist devon #05When you see that an Aromatherapist is “AC registered” this is your ‘kitemark’ of assurance that you will enjoy a thoroughly professional and safe aromatherapy treatment.

I am registered with the Aromatherapy Council, and you can get more information from their website.
As more Aromatherapists in Devon become "AC registered", the standards of the aromatherapy profession in Exeter and the South West can only improve.
